My husband and I (and our hamsters!) absolutely love this cage! That being said, it IS difficult to put together, and you have to know what you are doing or it won't stay together. The hooks on the sides must be clenched together with wire pliers where the hook of the wall meets the adjoining wall in order to create a tight fit. You have to interlock all of the hooks in just the right order and do a lot of trial and error and testing on the tightening of the hooks. It does instruct you to do this, however, I personally feel that they didn't emphasize this enough in the instructions. This cage won't simply slide and click together. I will say, it is a lot of bother to put together, but all you really have to do is pay attention to the instructions. Once you do, you will have what I consider to be the best cage on the market. I wouldn't recommend this cage for dwarf hamsters, but it is absolutely perfect for larger hamsters like my Teddy Bear hamster. I've used this exact brand and model of cage for many, many years, and the only problem I have is rust buildup after a couple of years use. That being said, it has never caused my hamsters any harm, and I of course replace it at the first sign of rust. Even then, it still outlasts any other hamster cage I've ever had. My only worry is that it doesn't seem to be a very popular cage, and isn't sold in stores anymore, which led me to buying it from Amazon in the first place. I honestly don't know what I would do if this cage were taken off the market. There simply isn't another, more suitable cage I'd rather use.
EDIT (2/29/2012): Upon receiving the cage, it was realized by my husband and myself that the instructions no longer instruct you to pinch together the hooks. This is a massive oversight, and I'm pretty sure the source of a lot of people's problems in many of the reviews I have read. One issue we had was that a couple of side wall hooks weren't long enough to pinch together as much as we would have liked. A manufacturing oversight, but it didn't affect cage stability any once everything was secured in place.
