This is actually a very nice cage. It's not a huge cage, but it could be a hamster's first starter home. I use this cage as a secondary home for my Syrian hamster and he seems to like it. The wheel is actually a decent size for him, which I like. There is a little "loft" that they can climb into, but it seems almost pointless. It's a cute idea, but not big enough or easy enough to climb into. I still keep it attached, just in case.
Most people do not like the water bottles that come with Habitrail cages, and this one is no different. I just don't care for the water bottle, but...
The cage is wired at the top, with a DEEP plastic base. This is awesome for the hamster because while there may be some "drafts", the base is deep enough for the hamster to not get hit hard with it. Also, ventilation is great because the wiring is all the way around.
It connects and disconnects VERY easily, and the top has a neat "lock/unlock" handle.
I'd definitely recommend this cage for your hamsters. Like I said, not a big cage--but it's nice as an add-on or starter home!
